The principal farmhouse on the Isle of Arran, this fabulous seven-bedroom property is perfect for families and groups of friends seeking a holiday exploring the natural beauty and outdoor adventures of this magical Isle.

Often referred to as ‘Scotland in miniature' the Isle of Arran offers visitors stunning scenery, dramatic history and a choice of outdoor activities. The peaceful village of Machrie lies on the west coast of Arran, with a long shingle beach for sunset strolls and picnics watching the boats skim across the bay. Discover the atmospheric Neolithic stone circle on Machrie Moor (1.5 miles) on a hike across the moorland or follow the woodland trails through the grounds of Brodick Castle (9.5 miles). Try your hand at gorge walking, abseiling or mountain biking at Auchrannie (9 miles). For a less strenuous activity why not visit one of two distilleries for a distillery tour and sample a dram or two? - the Isle of Arran Distillers (14 miles) or Lagg Distillery (10 miles)

Situated on a working farm and enjoying an elevated position with sea views across to the Mull of Kintyre, your exceptional holiday home boasts spacious accommodation in an unrivalled setting. Drive along the tree-lined driveway to your beautiful traditional stone holiday home and as you step out of your car, pause and breathe in the refreshing sea air and admire your spectacular surroundings. Walk along the path and step through the entrance porch into your coastal retreat. The entrance hall has plenty of room to greet your guests with an elegant occasional table perfect for leaving keys on and there's a large heated boot room for removing walking boots and wellies and hanging up outdoor coats. With sash windows and open fireplace, the drawing room is tastefully decorated in muted tones, making this a tranquil space to sit and relax after a day of exploration. Curl up in one of the plump sofas with the latest novel or the daily paper or simply sit and chat with friends and family. Watch TV or play a noisy family board game in the sitting room, a generous room with brightly patterned armchairs and snug sofas grouped for conversation. On cooler evenings light the open fire and relax in its gentle warmth. While away the hours watching the ever-changing horizon from the conservatory, a stunning room that runs the length of the west side of the farmhouse and is perfect to watch the sun set as you sip your tipple of choice. Cook up a storm in the contemporary kitchen which is a chef's dream equipped with electric hob and two electric ovens, three fridge/freezers, two dishwashers and a microwave, making catering for your whole party effortless. A washing machine and tumble dryer means rinsing through sandy beachwear or muddy clothes is not a problem. Gather in the charming formal dining room for leisurely evening meals around the elegant dining table that comfortably seats all 14 guests. Three of the inviting bedrooms are on the ground floor along with a handy cloakroom with WC. Striking fabrics and bright soft furnishings make each of the bedrooms warm and welcoming, whilst deep mattresses and plump pillows invite you to drift off for a peaceful night's sleep. The king-size bedroom is dressed with crisp linens and cosy duvets and benefits from an en-suite bathroom with shower over bath and WC. A further two spacious zip and link king-size bedrooms both enjoy en-suite shower rooms with WC. Head up the period staircase to the first floor and the four-remaining bedroom. Dressed in stylish soft-furnishings and enjoying views across the garden, snuggle down in the restful double which boasts a luxurious en-suite bathroom with separate shower and WC. Along the hallway is the second generous double bedroom with en-suite bathroom with shower over bath and WC. Two light and airy zip and link king-size bedrooms have the use of a family bathroom with shower over bath and WC.

To the front of the property is an enclosed garden perfect for spreading out your picnic blanket for an al fresco lunch or in the evening light the BBQ and enjoy a meal under the stars.

This house is one of the best I have ever stayed in. The owners have thought of everything. The house is beautifully decorated and so well stocked that it really feels like a home not just a rental property. The location is perfect with lots of country walks that can begin at the front door and larger adventures not far away.

House of Machrie was perfect for our family gathering - plenty of room for everyone to be together to eat/play games/cook and just chat, but also quiet, comfy corners for reading and solitude (and so many interesting books!). The views and rural location are special with sunsets across the Kilbrannen Sound and the joy of watching/hearing the exuberRead moreant lambs from every room. The decor, soft furnishings, bedrooms and bathrooms are exceptional and the whole property is very well appointed. Hide
