Characterful former milking parlour set in a tranquil, rural location. Surrounded by open countryside yet within easy reach of many popular attractions, it’s the ideal base for a relaxing break.

Located on the Dorset/Somerset and Wiltshire borders, this charming converted property is one of two barns set around a pretty courtyard, which is adjacent to the owner’s 17th century farmhouse. Set within a 50 acre sheep farm with some horses to admire it is the perfect spot for those wanting to take a break from the stresses of modern life. With a plethora of walks, cycle routes and flora and fauna to explore, plus the picturesque towns of Shaftesbury, Mere, Bruton and Wincanton within easy reach, it’s ideally situated for relaxed days spent touring. Enjoy a day out at nearby Stourhead, Longleat or Stonehenge before sampling local produce in one of the country pubs to be found dotted around the lanes.

On entering this former farm building you are met by a characterful open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner with pitched ceiling and feature beams. The stylish kitchen area is well-equipped with an electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer, and microwave. There is a laundry room with a washer/dryer situated in the courtyard. The cosy lounge area is adjacent and offers a TV and DVD, making this the perfect place to relax and unwind after a day spent exploring this picturesque area. Heading on from here is a useful room where you could either place a cot or use as a storage room, and an inviting double bedroom. At the end of the corridor is a contemporary bathroom, which has a shower over bath and WC.

Heading outside you will find a gravel courtyard and patio with garden furniture. Located a short stroll from the barn, it’s the perfect spot to relax and unwind. There is off-road parking for one car adjacent to the property. Across the yard, walks can be taken through the owner’s land, where there are beautiful views across open countryside to a lake and bluebell woods in season.

We loved our time in this perfect cottage. So lucky to be there in May to see the unusual wild flowers, particularly round the lake and on road verges, including Ancient Woodland Indicator species. A beautiful unspoiled part of the country.

My wife and I loved the property. Owners, just across the drive were lovely people and a fount of local knowledge. Wonderfully isolated. Unfortunately we chose a time with total cloud cover, but I imagine that with no street lighting, the view of the Stars would be wonderful. Drop in to the village hall, we did, and had a cracking evening.

A lovely cosy, quiet cottage in a super location. Lots of walks across the fields from the front door and a beautiful view of sunsets from just down the lane.

A great place!! Comfortable, well appointed, beautifully decorated, dog friendly cottage in a fantastically tranquil location. It was just what we needed for a few days break.

absolutely loved the place. If you want peace and quiet, this is ideal as it's in the middle of no where (so you need your own transport)! Perfect if you want to walk, cycle or just enjoy the solitude. Very central for days out (we easily did Jurassic Coast and Cheddar Gorge), before relaxing for the evening! Hope to visit again

This lovely barn conversion, which has all mod cons yet retains its rustic feel, was ideal for a peaceful week in the lovely Wiltshire countryside. We had a friendly welcome from the owners, who had some helpful advice about local shopping etc. There is good walking directly from the door, and a number of unspoilt small towns and villages within a Read moreshort drive, as well as a great pub-with-meals in East Knoyle, the next village. Altogether we had an excellent week, and would like to return. Hide
