Property code: OC-ROUND

This property enjoys a tranquil countryside location on the edge of Dartmoor national park, close to the town of Tavistock. The town itself is a fine example of an historic market town, with its shops, leisure centre with swimming pool, eateries, arts and entertainment venue, and bus station, making it a lovely place to spend a day wandering the streets which are lined with buildings made from local stone. Dartmoor National Park, which is just five miles from the property, offers stunning scenery, paths and cycle ways for all abilities, and a wealth of wildlife. Other attractions in the area include the National Trust properties of Buckland Abbey, Cothele and Landhydrock. In the city of Plymouth, you will find the historic Hoe, marine aquarium and art deco seawater pool. Plymouth can be accessed by road (30 mins) or from Gunnislake train station just 4 miles away. Why not explore a little further afield and use the new trainline opened in 2022 from Okehampton to Exeter, known for its cathedral and Royal Albert memorial museum and art gallery. For those wanting to visit the seaside there is the surfing hotspot of Bude less than an hour northwest which also features an outdoor sea pool or the charming beach town of Looe, less than hour southwest of the property. The Eden Project can be found nr St Austell, trek through the world’s largest indoor rainforests with its covered biomes. For fishing enthusiasts, Mill Hill Fisheries is within a mile.

This property is one-of-three on this 110-acre farm, and offers comfortable, unique accommodation for adults only (babes in arms under six months are welcome). The property occupies the first floor of the farm’s roundhouse barn and is accessed by a flight of external stairs, which lead to the front door. Once inside, guests will love the rounded exposed stone walls in all of the rooms, as well as the sloping beamed ceilings, which give the property a unique charm. The lounge/diner, which occupies one half of the circular building, has window seats running all around the edge, allowing guests to enjoy views across the farm, surrounding countryside and the moors. There is also a small dining table, as well as comfortable sofa seating, and a Smart TV and radio. The separate kitchen is equipped with everything that guests will need, including an electric oven, hob, microwave and fridge with a small freezer compartment. The delightful bedroom is a lovely restful space, with a double bed. The property's bathroom offers a walk-in shower and WC.

Outside, the property benefits from its own gravelled area with garden furniture, so that guests can enjoy the peace and tranquillity of their surroundings in privacy. In addition to this, guests have access to the spacious shared gardens which are laid to lawn. There is private parking right outside.

We loved the view from the Upper Roundhouse! It was cool enough, facing east. There are 7 steep granite steps up to the front door (safe to leave unlocked!). The seating area outside is minimal, on gravel, next to the parked car, and had no shade, but we were out most of the time. The owners were friendly (they live next door, as does the old farmeRead morer). Birdsong and tractors - idyllic rural! Wed be happy to return. Hide
