Property code: OC-95107

Hidden away in the Shropshire Hills, only 6.5 miles from the pretty village of Clun, this 200-year-old rustic cottage offers a true escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The property stands alone on a hill with spectacular views over the Clun Valley. Sat on an organic working farm, this self-sufficient cottage's eco credentials include water heated by solar panels and electricity supplied by wind turbine. Pick up the historic Offa’s Dyke Path from the doorstep and you’re only a few miles from the Shropshire to Wales border. The charming towns of Bishops Castle (8.5 miles), Newtown (11 miles), Knighton (14 miles) and Ludlow (24 miles) have an abundance of character and history to explore, along with the convenience of pubs, shops and eateries.

Stepping through the stable door at the front of the property, you’ll enter the main living space – a cosy nook with original stone floors and chimney breast, housing a traditional wood burner that takes centre stage to heat the whole cottage. A comfortable three-seater sofa and chair surround the fire, perfect for chilly winter nights and gathering for late-night conversations. There is also a small TV with a DVD player hung in the corner of the room, with a selection of DVDs and books to choose from. Take a small step into the kitchen where there is a good-size oak dining table with seating for four, and the kitchen is fully equipped with a fridge, gas oven with grill (to do your toast) as well as ample space for you to cook up quality meals for everyone comfortably. Off the kitchen is where you’ll find the family bathroom complete with WC, basin, and walk-in shower. You can also enter the property through the side of the house from the patio and garden area into the kitchen. Upstairs there are two spacious and comfortable bedrooms, decorated in neutral tones and displaying quirky original features. Both the double and twin bedrooms offer stunning views of the surrounding farmland from the windows.

Outside in the adjacent outbuilding, guests also have access to their own private games room with a pool table, table tennis, dartboard, and table football. There is some additional seating in the outbuilding, and the views from the window are spectacular – it’s a fun space to create even more memories with your loved ones! The grounds of the cottage are private and closed off by a gate to the rear of the property. On those spring/summer evenings, pull out the BBQ and dine alfresco on the terrace or simply enjoy your morning coffee on the bench listening to the sound of birds as they gather around the feeder. Observe the incredible sunsets and sunrises over the horizon and with zero-minimal light pollution in the area, you really feel the magic of this special place as the stars and moon come out. Feel free to wander the many acres of surrounding farmland and as they rear traditional Highland and Hereford cattle, Berkshire pigs, Hill Radnor sheep and Alpacas, there is also the opportunity to learn more about this diversified organic farm that has been in the owner’s family since the Victorian era.

We stayed the week of 23-29th May and were lucky as the weather was very good that week, actually a bit too warm when we were out and about exploring but the cottage and outside space was lovely and cool when we arrived back later afternoon and evening. Our son has autism and can sometimes find it hard to settle at places we stay but he felt righRead moret at home here and was very relaxed at the cottage and loved watching the sheep and cows in the fields and using the games room for just us, he doesn;t usually participate in games because he finds them difficult and gets upset around others if he can't do what they can easily do but with just us using it he was happy to try the things and we enjoyed table football and ping pong, tried a bit of pool and some skittles. The beds were comfy and we all slept very well. We were lucky enough to be able to sit outside for our evening meals each day and enjoy morning and evening cups of tea on the bench overlooking the field of sheep... my favourite spot to sit and relax. My autistic son is a bit obsessed with certain tv shows and cartoons and watches everyday we are at home but here with the animals, games room and views we didn't use TV/Dvd once and just enjoyed being there as it was so nice. The cottage is cosy and has all we needed to start and end our days easily. We paid for the beaver experience once evening and were lucky enough to get a viewing of them in the water, as well as a heron, bats and some other little birds flitting about. The hide is a lovely spot to sit and watch while waiting for the beavers. This was our first visit to Shropshire and It certainly didn't disappoint..... we all feel like this has been one of our best places we have stayed and would love to visit again one day. You are on a farm and the owners are friendly and welcoming but unless you want or need to see people it feels like you are in a peaceful spot with nobody else around. A little piece of heaven that looks like a landscape painting Hide

A wonderful peaceful cottage in the midst of outstanding scenery with very warm friendly hosts. Excellent walking and many places to visit in the area, with evenings round the cosy woodburner or playing mini table tennis, snooker, darts or table football in the Barn. A big thankyou to our hosts. We would love to return!

I contacted the owners to complain about our stay here with a breakdown of things we weren't happy with. I got a very curt reply saying - 'Please contact the company you booked through.' More suitable for a couple who need a Read morebase for walking or sightseeing in summer . I'd like to speak with someone about a full or partial refund please. Please contact me and advise.
