Explore the history of the magnificent castle ruins, browse the independent shops and galleries in the village and enjoy a picnic on the sandy beach. There is a good choice of pubs and restaurants to choose from and a golf course with stunning sea views. Walk along the river to the nearby Amble Marina and watch the fishing boats land their catch, eat at the renowned seafood restaurants, walk around the pier, and visit the ice cream parlour for treats. Alnwick Castle and Gardens is just 11.5 miles away and offers a great day out too.

Step into the hallway of this welcoming property where you can leave your outdoor clothing and shoes. Head into the lounge with dual aspect windows offering views of the gardens to the front and side of the cottage, comfortable seating, and a feature fireplace housing the cosy, electric wood burner-effect fire for lazy evenings in. At mealtimes, the kitchen/diner comes with plenty of rustic charm and is a lovely place to sit together for sociable meals at the extending dining table. From here, sliding doors open onto the expansive garden. The family cook will find everything needed to make a great meal, including a range-style gas hob and electric oven, a microwave, fridge, and dishwasher. A cupboard off the hallway houses a fridge/freezer, while the utility room has a washing machine and a Belfast sink. A door from the utility area leads out onto the patio and orchard garden beyond. Three of the bedrooms are located on the ground floor: to the front is the twin room, and to the rear are two double bedrooms, one with an en-suite shower room and WC. The family bathroom has a shower over the bath and WC. Stairs from the lounge lead up to the first floor and the cosy and characterful fourth bedroom, set in the eaves with a double bed and Velux-style windows. Enjoy some friendly family sporting tournaments in the spacious games room/chill-out area with an air hockey table, a full-size pool table, and seating, also located on the first floor.

Outside, the wrap-around country garden has a table and chairs and a charcoal BBQ at the front where you can dine alfresco and watch the sunsets. You can see the buildings of the smallholding from the front garden and may have the odd duck waddling by to say hello. To the rear, you will find more garden furniture to relax on and children will enjoy playing hide and seek in the garden’s orchard areas. Private, off-road parking is available for four cars.

This was our fourth visit to Ford cottage which speaks for itself, it was like visiting friends again as Phil and Geraldine are so welcoming and attentive. This was the best time to visit with our family as the 4th of April turned out to be the start of lambing season for the farm and Phil kindly allowed everyone to watch this wonderful spectacle, Read morethere were all the highs and lows to witness with lots of lambs born but the odd ones were stillborn and some were orphaned but it was fascinating to see how Phil had them adopted by other ewes. The house is ideal for our party, Im a wheelchair user and take a ramp to enable access but cannot use it indoors as the doors and corridors are a little narrow but as a family we cope. It is a lovely tranquil area close to the Ford and a small caravan site lots of wild birds, with hens and ducks on the farm as well as pigs. I have mentioned the games room in a previous review which is invaluable for the kids, needless to say this wont be our last visit as long as the dates suit. Hide
