Located on a working hill farm in the Arkengarthdale valley, this stone cottage is fabulous for an off-the-beaten track break with friends or family. The farm is surrounded by wildflower meadows and heather moorland, with babbling brooks and pastures adding further bucolic bliss while unspoilt skies promise unforgettable stargazing opportunities. Arkengarthdale and Swaledale – the two most northerly Yorkshire Dales – meet at Reeth (6 miles), where you’ll find a fine choice of friendly inns and eateries. Other must-see locations within 10 miles include Gunnerside, Muker, Keld and Thwaite, while Bowes –famous for its castle – is 14 miles. Take the effort out of your self-catering stay with a visits to the Tan Hill Inn – the highest pub in Britain – which is only 5.5 miles away. Even closer, another friendly local, the CB Inn, sits at the edge of the Pennine Way, close to the mid-point of Wainwright’s Coast-to-Coast walk and adjacent to the Stang, one of the world’s most dramatic cycling climbs.

Very hospitable owners , a lovely location with walks from the cottage onto the surrounding moorland, plenty of wildlife but close enough to the Dales towns and villages, We loved it. Cottage warm ,comfortable and superbly equipped. It is in the middle of a tidy ,but at times busy working farmyard and may not be for everyone ,but if you love the cRead moreountry life, this is an immersive and interesting holiday. Hide
