This spacious 19th-century farmhouse sits on its own amid the beautiful Hermitage Valley. Surrounded by splendid glens and countryside scenery, there are miles of country trails and forest tracks on the doorstep to explore. Steeped in history and legend, this beautiful valley is home to the formidable Hermitage Castle, a 13th-century stronghold often called the ‘guardhouse of the bloodiest valley in Britain’ due to its turbulent past. The castle, once associated with figures like Mary, Queen of Scots and the notorious Border Reivers, offers a haunting glimpse into medieval life and conflict. The charming village of Newcastleton (8 miles) offers local pubs serving hearty food and attraction’s including the Liddesdale Heritage Centre, 7stanes (a renowned mountain biking trail), and Rock UK Outdoor Adventure centre. The bustling town of Hawick (18 miles), famous cashmere and knitwear links, is also nearby.

Step into the hall and head through to the sumptuous lounge. Relax on the comfortable sofas after a day out exploring the beautiful glens and watch a movie on the Smart TV while the wood burner roars. Next is the games room where you can test your skills on the pool table alongside another wood burner. Continuing down the hall, there is also a cosy sitting room with a wood burner and a TV, directly followed by the conservatory with a dining area for family gatherings. From here, patio doors lead out to the beautiful mature gardens. Next is the well-equipped bespoke kitchen with a central dining area – the perfect space for preparing meals and spending time together. Also located on the ground floor, you’ll find the utility rooms, a shower room with WC, and an additional separate WC. Head upstairs to the first floor, where you’ll find five spacious bedrooms all with glen and countryside views. These comprise two en-suite super-king-size zip-and-link (that can be made into a twin on request), a king-size with an en-suite Jack and Jill shower room (that can also be accessed from the hall), another en-suite king-size and a king-size bedroom with full size cot. On the landing, there is another bathroom.

Venture outside to the beautiful mature gardens with seating areas, charcoal BBQ and table and chairs for al fresco dining and admiring the glen views you saw from indoors. Gorrenberry House is a beautiful old house in a remote area! Very peaceful and tranquil. The house is well kitted out and was very clean. Our party of nine had a great time and will definitely look at booking again.

We have really enjoyed the stay and especially pool table, table tennis and fire places. A huge house with the plenty of space where everyone can relax and enjoy their time with privacy. The host was very friendly and helpful with answering any questions and providing everything we have asked. I would definitely come back.
