A small hamlet in the heart of the Suffolk countryside, Shelland is home to one of the UK’s few surviving churches dedicated to King Charles I. The houses here are surrounded by beautiful countryside criss-crossed by public footpaths connecting to close-by villages, while the nearest town is Stowmarket, 4 miles away. Here, you’ll find a traditional twice-weekly market and The Museum of East Anglian Life, along with a mix of big-name and independent retailers. One of the county’s premier food and drink destinations, Bury St Edmunds is 12 miles away - visit its brewery, enjoy a stroll in the Abbey Gardens and explore Georgian squares where every building has a story to tell. Just over 16 miles in the opposite direction, Ipswich is steeped in maritime history and has a very modern waterfront where luxury yachts and leisure boats berth before a quay lined with bars and restaurants.

This idyllic rural retreat is enveloped by rolling countryside and offers gorgeous accommodation for a large family or a group of friends. There’s plenty of space for everyone to get together in the welcoming open-plan ground-floor living space, where perfectly positioned windows allow natural light to flood in and there are two double French doors leading into the garden. A farmhouse kitchen complete with an American-style fridge/freezer, integrated appliances and a coffee machine offers all the home-from-home essentials, while a traditional dining suite, comfortable sofas and a Smart TV will doubtless be the setting for companionable evenings. Completing the convenience, there’s a washing machine, tumble dryer and storage space in the utility room on the ground floor too. Upstairs, there are three generous bedrooms: the first bedroom has a super-king-size bed, a Smart TV and an en-suite shower room, the second has a double bed with a single bunk above it, and the third has a king-size bed, a Smart TV and en-suite shower room. A family bathroom completes the first-floor layout and means that each bedroom has its own facilities close by.

Outside, there is a large, fenced garden laid to lawn. There is a small patio area with seating and also a second seating area, perfect for dining alfresco. After dinner, as the stars come out, dip into your very own hot tub (extra charge £100 for 2/3 night bookings and £150 for 4/7 night bookings (payable to the owner who will contact guests prior to their arrival for payment) and have a glass of fizz.

A fabulous retreat for anyone seeking some peaceful time away from it all. The garden was completely safe for our little dog, and private. We spent hours looking out at the pheasants, hares and other wildlife, and the hot tub is well placed to enjoy the view. The property is well equipped for everything you need for self catering and the local WaitRead morerose deliver. We were a couple looking to relax in the sun, but if you have children the garden would lend itself to a game of boules or even clock golf if you wanted to bring games along. Wi-Fi worked fine, temperature comfortable and plenty of hot water. We thoroughly enjoyed our week, thank you. Hide

The property was very nice, both historic and modern inside. The location was excellent, we saw numerous hares, deer, birds of prey, game birds etc. The hot tub really was a nice addition. The location is great to getting around Suffolk, we did Bury St Edmunds, Sutton Hoo, Woodbridge to see the Saxon ship, Ipswich and Felixstowe (Landguard Fort). HRead moreighly recommended!! Hide
