Property code: OC-NB1986

This contemporary cottage is set deep in rolling countryside within Howick Hall Gardens & Arboretum, the ancestral seat of the Earls Grey since 1319 (after who the tea is named) and a garden lover’s delight. You are welcome to walk dogs before 10.30am or after 6pm in the arboretum and have direct access to the gardens (no dogs permitted) during opening hours. The farming hamlet of Howick itself is set just inland from the North Sea and looks out onto the majestic ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle, 2.5 miles to the north, and to distant views of Coquet Island, 13 miles to the south. A 14-mile coastal footpath between Beadnell and Alnmouth passes near the village, offering some of the most outstanding coastal scenery in the country.

The decor of the cottage is of a high standard throughout. Enter through a side entrance and into a hallway leading to the downstairs shower room with underfloor heating, and the country-style kitchen with a dining area and views onto the garden. There is also a good-sized cloakroom on the ground floor where you can store coats and shoes. The lounge includes comfortable seating and has an attached sunroom with views out onto the rear garden. An external utility room is accessed from the side of the property and there are two bedrooms upstairs with lovely views – a king-size and a twin (the twin beds can be made into a super-king-size bed on request). The charming bathroom features a shower over the bath.

The wonderful rear garden includes outdoor furniture and is a great place to relax on summer evenings – ensure you make the most of the grounds of this magnificent estate as well during your holiday.

It is a perfect situation away from the "honeypot" villages of the Northumberland coast but still close enough to enjoy them, and absolutely ideal for dog owners to be able to enjoy the Arboretum by walking from the door. Also walking distance from the coast path. Very comfortable, warm and thoughtfully furnished.

The cottage was very comfortable, and the super king size bed so comfortable, slept well and loved waking up to the cows mooing and watching them from the bedroom window, waiting for the farmer to deliver their hay.

Attractive cottage, very well equipped and furnished and very central for visiting places of interest, either by car or on foot. Would be lovely in spring to visit Arboretums azaleas and rhododendrons and gardens. Housekeeper (Anna) called on us and was very welcoming and helpful.
