Large farmhouse providing ample space for groups of friends and extended families to spend quality time together. Gilestone Pond (0.25 miles) is a tranquil haven for wildlife, just a short stroll from the farmhouse. Set in the village of Talybont-on-Usk, in the heart of Brecon Beacons National Park, there’s plenty to explore in the local area, including a canal, two rivers, a reservoir, rolling hills, woodland, waterfalls, wildlife, and local arts and crafts. The farmhouse is close to many picturesque walks starting from Gilestone (1 mile) and Taylbont itself. You can choose an easy stroll along the canal, an epic circular hike taking in all of the Central Beacons, or a relaxing meander around the Talybont Waterfalls. Take the kids to Cantref Adventure Farm (7 miles) to see the animals, go pony trekking, or enjoy Europe’s longest sledge ride. Younger children will love to spend rainy days at the Play Barn at Brynich (6 miles), an indoor soft play centre on the outskirts of Brecon. Further afield, you can visit Brecon Mountain Railway (12.7 miles) to enjoy a steam train ride through the National Park.

You’ll first catch a glimpse of this charming farmhouse as you travel along the tree-lined drive leading to the owner’s working farm. The house offers ample space for 15 people, so it’s the ideal choice for large families or groups of friends. On the ground floor, the spacious sitting room offers ample seating, TV, DVD player, and a wood burner, so it’s a cosy spot to relax or enjoy a movie night. Further living space is available in the morning room, which is equipped with sofas, and a wood burner set in a fabulous floor-to-ceiling fireplace. If you’re staying with older children or teenagers, they will probably want to claim this as their living area! In the conservatory, you’ll find a sofa and chairs, plus a small dining table. This room offers views of the garden and surrounding farmland. Doors from the conservatory lead out to the patio area. The spacious kitchen is traditionally decorated, including a flagstone floor, and features a large sociable kitchen table with ample chairs for all. The utility area offers a useful drying space for outdoor clothing, wellies, and hiking boots. The ground floor also benefits from a shower room. The first floor offers five bedrooms, comprising one single bedroom, two double bedrooms, and two king-size bedrooms. One of the king-size rooms features a striking, hand-carved four-poster bed. The first-floor bedrooms are served by two bathrooms, both with a shower over the bath. On the second floor, you’ll find two double bedrooms, both with en-suite facilities.

Outside, there is a delightful lawn garden area with mature shrubs and trees. A small stream trickles through part of the garden. The patio area with garden furniture is the ideal spot for al fresco dining or sunset drinks. Guests are welcome to tour the farm with the owner, where you can see sheep, cattle, pheasants, buzzards, red kites, and herons. Fantastic, warm, welcoming, cosy farmhouse with lots of space for our mixed group of family and friends. Had everything we needed, well equipped kitchen, plenty of logs for the fire, even a local cat who we were advised we could allow in the house only if we wanted to! Lots to see and do in the area. Would definitely visit again.

A beautiful home in a picturesque location. Could use a clean with cobwebs and dirty windows in some places. The outdoor decking area needs serious attention. The owner was friendly.
