This tranquil cottage in the beautiful North Northumberland countryside is a perfect cosy family base, with easy access to Berwick-upon-Tweed and Holy Island. The property is found on the road south out of the village of Lowick, where there is a shop and pubs. Lindisfarne (or Holy Island; 10.5 miles) is an integral part of the history of the area; you can still visit the ruins of the priory where the monks (who built a chapel in Lowick in the 12th century) would have lived and worked, and the 16th-century Lindisfarne castle. Berwick-upon-Tweed (11.5 miles), a favourite holiday spot of the artist L. S. Lowry, is a fascinating town with rich offerings; you will find plenty of shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs, as well as entertainment for all the family at the Maltings, beautiful walks along the Elizabethan walls, and two beaches. Visitors are spoilt for choice when it comes to pretty scenery and walks from the property; a popular walking spot that includes a lovely approach through the forest is St Cuthbert’s Cave (3.5 miles). For those who enjoy outdoor climbing, Kyloe-in-the-Woods is only 3 miles from the cottage, and for golf enthusiasts there is a fabulous selection of quiet and picturesque clubs, the nearest being at Wooler (5 miles).
The lounge is so welcoming, especially on cold days, perhaps after a lovely long walk, especially once there’s a fire roaring away in the original range fireplace. This living space is all open plan, so the dining table is in this area too, right by the window, with the compact kitchen behind a screened partition. Also on this floor, you will find a cosy double bedroom and the bathroom, as well as a quaint conservatory that allows you to sit inside in comfort and look out into the garden and the fields beyond, whatever the weather. The first-floor twin room is accessed by a narrow, wooden staircase, and has Velux windows in the sloping ceiling, as well as exposed beams. Throughout the rest of the property are lovely big windows for catching as much natural light as possible, which really breathe light and life into the rooms.
The cottage-style garden has pretty beds and lawns with garden furniture, so you can enjoy a drink or meal outside. The garden is completely enclosed and boasts views out to the fields beyond the boundary.
