A stone cottage overlooking a 1,800-acre sheep farm is perfect for nature lovers, walkers, mountain bikers and guests in search of a holiday hideaway free from the busy pace of modern life. There are glorious walks from the front door in this wild and unspoiled landscape, where you may see red squirrels, hear curlews in the spring or glimpse an otter in the River Breamish. A short, 4-mile walk across the fells, brings you to Linhope Spout, a spectacular waterfall tumbling 18 metres down a rock face into a pool below. From the doorstep you will find tracks to the Pennine Way (2 miles) and several unmarked routes which you can find marked in the cottage. The little village of Ingram (4 miles) on the banks of the Breamish has a family-run cafe and farm shop open seven days a week. Visit the historic 11th-century village church and see fascinating items unearthed by archaeologists from the ancient hill forts and Bronze Age settlements found across the Cheviot Hills. There are independent shops, cafes and pubs in the nearby market town of Wooler (8 miles).

Enter the cottage door into an attractively furnished lounge with a comfortable sofa, a cosy wood burner on a stone and slate hearth, and a warm rug across the tiled floor. Completing the welcoming picture are a TV, a dining table and chairs for four and a large, framed map of the area. The remainder of the ground floor comprises a compact kitchen, with everything you might need for home cooking, and a shower room with WC. A wooden staircase leads to the first-floor king-size bedroom with a vaulted ceiling, beams and a pretty wooden bed. This relaxing room has beautiful far-reaching views from the window.

Outside, there are two chairs to the front of the cottage, where guests can stargaze in clear skies free from light pollution in front of the fire pit.

Very nice and comfortable. Met owners a couple of times and they were very friendly and helpful. The cottage was isolated but the wildlife was fantastic.

If you want a quiet, remote place to stay and do not mind the fact that there is a dirt road up to it, this is the place. It is very dark at night!

If solitude is your thing, this is your place. Great hikes in the surrounding area. We were lucky to witness the shearing of the sheep.

Cuckoo Cottage is an excellent property in a marvellous location. The location redefines the meaning of "peace & quiet". We are already missing the soundtrack of Sheep & Curlew! We will definitely return.

This was a lovely stay in a beautiful and peaceful location. There are many walks from the doorstep and the sun hits the front of the house on the morning meaning even on winter days you can sit with a cuppa to greet the day ahead. Definite value for money and the owners are very helpful and friendly. Would certainly come back again thanks
