Property code: OC-91710

This former barn, a luxury getaway for a family or two couples, is situated on the northern edge of the handsome seaside town of Barry and close to the stunning Glamorgan Heritage Coast. The town of Barry itself is just 2.5 miles away, with plenty of places to eat, drink and shop, a pleasure park, tourist railway and, of course, the lovely sandy beach of Whitmore Bay. The property is only 9 miles from Cardiff and, with great road, bus and train links (Barry station is just 1.6 miles from the cottage), it is an ideal place to stay while attending a sporting event in the Millennium Stadium or elsewhere in the city. As well as its huge selection of shops and restaurants, Cardiff offers many all-weather activities, including an indoor water park and Olympic pool, and the International White Water Centre.

The property is one a pair of adjoining holiday cottages that won an award when they were converted in 2015. All on one raised level, it has high ceilings, beautiful original beams and stone floors. The open-plan lounge/dining area has comfortable leather sofas and fully glazed bifold doors that lead to the balcony – so you can throw them open and enjoy the feeling of space and fresh air. The kitchen at the far end of the room is fully equipped with cupboards, worktop space and utensils – perfect for preparing a snack or a family meal. The pretty double bedroom with its en-suite shower room is beyond the kitchen, while the king-size bedroom and en-suite bathroom is just off the lounge.

Outside the cottage a large, lawned space (adjoining the neighbouring property) gets the sun all day. There is a BBQ on site, a secure bike shed and storage space for sporting equipment. Directly off the lounge is a private, decked balcony with superb views over the Vale of Glamorgan and the Dyffryn Country Estate.

An ideal site with views over countryside. Easy access to Barry and east, west and north if you want to go further afield. A delightful local pub Cwm Talwg was walkable distance across the playing fields and footpaths of a neighbouring estate.

Tranquil location. Countryside views. Well equipped cottages. The hosts provide lots of essential.. ie.. Hand-wash. Washing up liquid and cloths. Towel. Bedding. Kitchen. Towel. Tin foil. Clingfilm. There was a welcome pack of Welsh Cakes and Crisps and a carton of milk in the fridge.. Couldn't fault the hospitality. There are lots of placeRead mores to visit in south Wales Dyffryn Gardens is a must!! Fagans Castle is a day out too. Waterfalls Country for a lovely waterfall walk.. Mumbles is a pretty seaside town about a hours drive through the hills and lovely scenery on the way..it has a newly built walkway with some lovely cafes and bars. Quaint little shops too.. We didn't find many places around where we could have a Evening meal as most stopped serving at 3pm. So we ate most days when we were out and about. Evening can be spent on the balcony overlooking Barry with a glass of wine and if the sky is clear you can see the sun set. If you are a TV or Games lover that entertain is provided too. All in all A Wonderful home from home. Hide

I felt peaceful and safe staying alone at Y Golomen, with the friendly and helpful owners nearby. It's on the northern edge of Barry, close to all the benefits of this seaside town, including the supermarket just up the road, but is also very quiet and has beautiful countryside views of the Vale of Glamorgan.
