In a beautiful rural setting and on a working farm, this is the perfect place to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy some quality time with family or friends. The restored 17th-century farmhouse is situated up a quiet country lane (and next door to another holiday cottage for two), in a great position to explore the pretty villages and stunning beaches, coves and harbours of the Llyn Peninsula. The picturesque coastal village of Aberdaron, with its sandy beach, pubs, cafes, shops and bakery, is just 3 miles away. Another gem of a beach, 4 miles away, is Porthor or ‘Whistling Sands’ (because it sometimes makes a squeaking sound when you walk on it), while if you want a hidden beach, Porth Towyn in the small village of Tudweiliog, 6.5 miles away, can be accessed via the coastal path. The National Trust manor house of Plas yn Rhiw is 2 miles away, while the seaside village of Nefyn (11 miles) offers Llyn Maritime Museum and a tour of the local brewery.
With its beamed ceilings, deep-set windows and exposed stone walls, the cottage feels instantly warm and welcoming, and its traditional furnishings suit its cosy character. In the lounge, where leather sofas are gathered around the inglenook fireplace and wood burner, an antique dresser boasts an impressive display of blue-and-white china, while the kitchen has an array of oak cupboards and a granite worktop – a great place in which to prepare a family dinner or a beach picnic. The dining room is a comfortable space with bookshelves, board games, jigsaws and maps and, like the living room, it looks onto the courtyard and bird-feeding station. Upstairs are two elegantly decorated double bedrooms, one with an en-suite shower room, and a bathroom with a fabulous cast-iron, claw-foot bath.
Children will love the facilities here. Not only is there an enclosed garden at the back with swings, but there also an outside playroom, equipped with Lego, Duplo, a wooden farm, a keyboard and a miniature snooker table. For the adults, a sheltered courtyard with a wooden bench and patio furniture is the ideal spot for relaxing outdoors, watching the sun set or enjoying an al fresco meal. There are also a BBQ set and a small clothesline at the rear of the cottage. As an extra-special treat, a tour of the owner’s adjacent working farm can be arranged, in which you may observe the daily activities and, depending on the season, help feed the lambs, calves and hens, and collect eggs.
