Set in the Dee Valley, this red brick cottage provides a wonderful, rural base for four guests wanting to explore the Welsh countryside on foot or bike. Situated on a farm, there’s an abundance of trails and routes that wind into the surrounding area from here, and plenty of wildlife to see along the way. Just 2 miles from the property is the small town of Ruabon which has a shop and a couple of pubs, while 5 miles away is the pretty town of Chirk which boasts a stunning, Grade I-listed castle. Head to the superb Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (5.5 miles) which has World Heritage Status and can be viewed from both the path and by boat on the River Dee.

This spacious home has been thoughtfully decorated yet retains traditional features such as exposed beams, ornamental fire places and quarry tiled floors. Enter through the back of the house and find a handy utility room which houses a washing machine, fridge/freezer, and cloakroom WC. Adjacent is the well-equipped kitchen – eat together around the table in front of the dining room’s warming wood burner, before heading through to the comfortable lounge which has an open fire and a Smart TV. Upstairs are two spacious bedrooms, a king-size and a twin, as well as a fabulous snug/playroom with sofa bed and storage. A family bathroom completes the interior which has a shower over the bath and a WC.

The outside space is a real jewel in this property’s crown. There is a patio and lawn garden to the front, with a low fence enabling guests to soak up the far-reaching countryside views. Enjoy sitting on the garden furniture enjoying an evening tipple while the children play on the lawn. As this property is located on a working farm, cattle and sheep reside nearby.

I had a great stay at The Old Farmhouse, I was walking Offas Dyke path so the location was perfect to access the walks each day. Warm and comfortable during what were quite cold wet weeks and a little haven to come back to each evening. Well equipped and very quiet. I would recommend The Old Farmhouse. If you are booking please note the steep staiRead morers and the additional steps down into the bathroom. Hide

The cottage was excellent. Great furnishings, comfy bed, well equipped kitchen, beautiful outlook, great walking nearby, not far from the Offas Dyke path. Made for a perfect holiday.

Apart from the steep stairs which we managed ok the cottage was well equipped and presented. The location was really good to access the places we wanted to see. We would definitely book again if we wanted to visit the same area.

A big (bigger than expected) cottage, with the fold down bed could easily sleep six, comfortable, well equipped, a bit in the country but access to main routes 4 miles or so, steep stairs!!

The farm house is an ideal blend of modern living and country escapism. The location gives you the peace and quiet to relax, but only being 10/15 minutes drive from the local town/ shops. With dedicated parking to the side of the property, it comes with a lovely simple outdoor area to front of the house, giving views of the orchard and farm fieldsRead more beyond. Inside is well appointed with simple up-to-date dcor & furniture. The kitchen is a well equipped, with a high quality finish, made good use of the fridge/ freezer and washing machine. Consistent, powerful water pressure, was ideal for invigorating showers after long, tiring days out. The big double bed was comfortable and added great sleep. Other plus points included: Having plenty of towels/ bed linen available, having a selection of board games on hand as an alternative to TV and having plenty of tourist leaflets on hand to help plan days out. Completely satisfied and pleased with this property. Hide
