Property code: SZ176

With cosy spaces inside and a fabulous garden, whatever the weather, find somewhere to relax and unwind after days exploring your lovely surroundings.

Tucked between the villages of Lazonby (2.5 miles) and Langwathby (4.5 miles), enjoy your peaceful setting in the Eden Valley. Walk from your door to Lacy’s Caves, where you will find five chambers carved into the sandstone cliffs less than half a mile from home. Continue on to Long Meg and her Daughters and make it a loop by adding in a visit to the village of Little Salkeld, the route is 4.5 miles long and great for a gentle walk. A 12.5-mile journey will take you to the northern tip of Ullswater, a beautiful body of water where you can make a splash and hire boats or enjoy a leisurely cruise on an Ullswater Steamer.

Make your way inside this quaint, single-storey home and begin your escape to the Lake District. Built as a gatehouse in 1900, this bolthole exudes character and charm and is a welcoming place to call home. The open-plan living space is light, bright and airy, yet cosy thanks to the wood burner which throws heat into the space. Lose yourself in a good book or switch on the TV/DVD for a romantic film night. Find all you need to rustle up delicious snacks and feasts from dawn ‘til dusk in the kitchen area with an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, toaster, kettle, dishwasher and washing machine. This bright space invites you to cook up a storm and throw together tasty picnics to help fuel your adventures. Dine together at the table and pop open a bottle or two for date nights in this lovely home. When it’s time to get snug and head to bed, the double bedroom is a wonderful place to rest. Decorated in neutral tones with pretty patterns scattered throughout, admire the ornamental fireplace and the views from the bay window. Rise and shine and start your day with a soak in the bath or a rinse in the shower over the bath before getting ready for the day. The bathroom also has a WC.

Take a brew outside to the patio which is reached via French doors in the living space. Bask in the morning sun and gaze out over the partially enclosed lawn - a great space to spend time in on balmy evenings after your adventures. A BBQ is perfect for sizzling feasts teamed with sundowner aperitifs, and you can stroll the shared natural woodland which leads you down to the banks of the River Eden for a stroll close to home. There is off-road parking for one car.

Guests have access to a private section of the beautiful River Eden, a quarter of a mile’s walk from the front door – you might recognise this section of river from the BBC's 'Gone Fishing Christmas Special' (2021) with Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse

Bed really comfortable although not convinced it was clean due to the stains on bedding and pillowcases. Not much hot water so must have quickest showers so theres enough water for 2, learned this the hard way unfortunatly. Welcome pack with tea, coffee etc would have been useful. Lovely location, peaceful and picturesque.

Uncomfortable & cold winter stay. Property in beautiful location with lots to do but let down by a cold and difficult to warm property due to poor central heating and the ability to only burn wood which is not provided, quick to burn and expensive. There was also a lack of some general basics such as salt, toiletries or a modern TV. The instructionRead mores provided by the property on how to get to Lacy's caves is also incorrect, but we were thankfully able to visit due to the help of a friendly local Hide

Lovely cottage in a great location, it's so peaceful the bed was very comfortable and the log burner is great. Outstanding location, very peaceful and private with lovely surroundings. The cottage is just right for two people and well laid out to make use of the space available.
