This cosy cottage is a quiet retreat for exploring the West Lakes from the vantage point of the Miterdale Valley and an ideal destination for families with children.

Elevated above the River Mitre with beautiful views of the surrounding fells, this attractive cottage sleeps four and has plenty to offer families with small children including welcome packs suitable for all ages. Pack a picnic and explore the various trails leading from your doorstep, discovering beauty spots such as Giggle Alley with its Japanese Garden 1 mile away. Experience the thrill of wild swimming at Blea Tarn 12.5 miles away and warm up with a flask of hot chocolate, or follow the River Esk and navigate the iconic stepping-stones to cross the river by an ancient church. The Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway offers a chance to soak up the views of the majestic Eskdale valley from the comfort of a steam locomotive, which you can board at the nearby station a short 3-mile drive away.

Inside, the interior of the property is an impressive combination of traditional details and contemporary convenience with exposed beams, rustic furnishing and a neutral decor. Enter via the kitchen/diner to discover a spacious area complete with a country-cottage style kitchen that features a built-in fan oven, gas hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and a washer/dryer. Enjoy your meals around the large table that has seating for four, or settle down with your morning coffee to appreciate the views through the windows. An open fire keeps the lounge warm and comfortable, and there is a TV and DVD for evening entertainment best enjoyed over bowls of popcorn on the sofas. Stairs lead up to the first floor to reveal the bedrooms and a family bathroom with a shower over the bath and WC. There’s a king-size bedroom, while the twin room features two single zip-and-link beds that can be converted into a super-king-size bed on request.

Boasting a vast shared garden complete with a children’s play area, younger guests will feel immediately at ease whilst the adults relax over a glass of wine on the patio. Mature trees and shrubbery are studded throughout the large lawn, which leads down to the unfenced river. There is an outside area for storage, and ample parking is available on the adjacent farm.
