This delightful property is found two miles from the village of Iddlesleigh, where Michael Morpurgo, author of acclaimed film War Horse, was first inspired to write the book. He sat in the local pub, chatting with the First World War veteran and local man, Wilfred Ellis. Venture further afield and you’ll discover many local attractions including Dartmoor, Exmoor, Lynton and Lynmouth to the north, Exmouth and Sidmouth to the south and the lovely beaches of Bude and Widemouth to the west. The Big Sheep, The Milky Way, RHS Rosemoor Gardens, coarse fishing at Stafford Moor, and Dartington Crystal are also a short drive. Cyclists and walkers are both well catered for with the famous Tarka Trail also within easy reach.

Enter the property into the welcoming medieval entrance hall. The large farmhouse kitchen offers a feature Rayburn, range cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave and a dining room table. There is a separate utility room which houses a dishwasher, washing machine and a tumble dryer. This large property benefits from two lounges, the first of which is accessed via a step up and offers a TV, DVD, cosy wood burner and patio doors into the garden. The second also offers a TV, DVD and wood burner – the first basket of logs is provided. There is also a second entrance/snug with PlayStation, books and games, and a spacious bathroom with a large walk-in shower and WC, ideal for elderly guests or those needing increased accessibility. There is a large king size bedroom accessed via one step that has a quiet seating area, whilst the rest of the bedrooms are found upstairs and can be accessed by two staircases. The first leads to a large family room with both a king-size and single bed, one twin room, and one further king-size room with en-suite bath, shower and WC. This room is situated so that it can be accessed by both sides of the farmhouse via doors on each side of the room, which can be closed off depending on your party make-up. The second staircase takes you to the master bedroom with king-size bed and en-suite bathroom with shower over a P-bath and WC, and a further twin room.

Outside you can sit back and relax in the private hot tub or enjoy a meal on the patio, and there’s a play area for children with a slide and climbing frame.

An ideal venue for a 70th Birthday family get together! Even though it rained a lot, there was more than enough for both adults and children to do. A warm friendly welcome awaited us. An extremely characterful property with bucketfuls of history.

This is such a special cottage, not only because it was built in the 1500s, but it's so cosy, unique, and has so many facilities on site, that we didn't even think about leaving to explore further. As well as the hot tub, there's a pool table, table footie, and ping pong. We had a very relaxed time here, I only wish we could've stayed longer.
